So I have almost completed my first week on my Continuous Glucouse Monitor System (CGMS). It has been very interesting seeing the trends in the numbers. Overall my numbers have been very high. I take my medications and the numbers mellow out, but spike within hours.

As a Type II Diabetic, I need to take multiple blood sugar readings throughout the day. This means pricking my fingers several times a day. Today I’m testing out a new blood sugar monitoring device. I doesn’t take away the finger pricking entirely, but it does reduce it significantly. The device also monitors and records 24/7 for 7 days.

Well I just got my most recent sent of blood work back and my Hemoglobin A1C numbers (a 90 day average of my blood sugars) is down from 10.7% to 7.7%. That’s a drop of 3 points in 1 month!

I decided that I’m going to blog about my health status on this blog as well. I think it’s important to also understand the choices I am making and how it affects me. I have struggled with my weight most of my adult life. I also have Type II Diabetes and High Blood Pressure (HBP). I suppose I knew I was going to have these problems as these are problems that existed in both of my parents’ families. But genetics aside, it is the choices I make that affect my own outcome.
