picture-7You’re probably asking yourself, why do you need to hull a strawberry. Just tear the green leaves off the top and cut a part of the top off. That’s all you really need to do right?

Wrong.

Did you know that the tartest and toughest part of the Strawberry is the hull (see Fig. 1)? Most folks will take a paring knife and just cut the top off. But by cutting off the top, you’re getting rid of a good portion of good sweetness in the flesh (see Fig 2). It’s only the center part that you have to remove (see Fig 3).

No fruit is wasted.

Press the button to release the leaves and hull and you’re ready for your next strawberry. Sweet!

As with all Oxo products, it has a rubber handle on top for an easy grip and it’s dishwasher safe.

The Oxo Strawberry Huller is available at Sur La Table and other retailers like Cooking.com for around $6.00

I actually bought this huller at Sur La Table since I am one to purchase strawberries in bulk at Costco from time to time. Not only is this great for strawberries, but it also is great for hulling out the spiney parts of a pineapple! I am glad I found a way to use the huller for more than just one fruit. Really worth the $6.
