Soyjoy’s Earth Day Competition Yields a Winner: Chef Andrew Kirschner

Besides being this editor’s birthday on April 22nd, it was also Earth Day. There were many Earth Day events yesterday which included a culinary competition hosted by SOYJOY®.
Battle of the Chefs: Eco-Cuisine was held in Los Angeles with 3 prominent chefs battling for a prize package worth $15,000. Our chefs: Chef Robert Danhi, owner of Chef Danhi & Co.; Chef CC, executive chef and owner of Clean Plate Meals; and Chef Andrew Kirschner of Wilshire Restaurant.
This Earth Day competition centers around the importance of choosing environmnetally responsible foods like soy.
Winning Chef Andrew Kirschner had the following winning menu:
Orange Julius Soytini
Panko Crusted Miso Marinated Tofu Steak with Edamame Puree, Soy Stir Fried Mushrooms and Shishito Peppers
Chocolate Fudge Soysicle
The recipes will be available on SOYJOY’s website on April 29.
Some culinary notables were also at the event. Dave Lieberman, Food Network host and author, was master of ceremonies for the event. At the judges tables were Akasha Richmond of Akasha, Joanne Weir, cookbook author and PBS Cooking host; Kate Geagan a Cooking Light contributor as well as Connie Gutterson an author and nutrition insturctor at the Culinary Institute of America. Star power was there as well with Julianne Moore joining our judges.

Congrats to the Chef! I’m sorry I missed this one! While I’m an avid BBQ meat eater – we drink soy milk like it’s going out of style!
