On Friday my boss brought me to a hot dog place that I haven’t eaten at before: Jerry’s Wood-Fired Dogs. They have three locations in Ladera Ranch, La Habra and Santa Ana. Today’s lunch was in Ladera Ranch.
When I walked into the place you instantly smell the mesquite in the air, it’s intoxicating. We had gotten there just before noon and the place was packed.
Jerry has a good selection of dogs, sausages and burgers. I opted for the Jerry’s Signature Dog which is an all-beef dog in a natural casing. This is served on a steamed bun (you need to ask) and you get your choice of a multitude of toppings. There were so many I opted for mustard, ketchup and grilled onions.
You can order it as a combo with a drink and either fries or hot potato chips. I got the chips! These chips are awesome. They’re a cross between potato chips and fries. They are cut thin like a chip, but has a tad of meatiness (potatoness) to them.
With all the topping combination, I will have to come back and sample a few different combinations. My boss got the same dog but with relish and I think sport peppers with mustard. We also had a to-go order for a co-worker who wanted a chili-dog with onions and cheese.
In additional to buying some great cooked deals, you can buy the dogs and sausages and cook them at home.
I give Jerry’s a 4 out of 5 rating for the simple fact that I Iike to put my own toppings on.

Did the wood chips actually make a difference in the hotdogs? I would think not so much.
Well in fact I could taste the mesquite…but my tastebuds could have been blinded by hunger! ;)
