Thanks to Ruben on Twitter for this story. Well it seems that Mother’s Cookies has filed for bankruptcy and shuttered its doors. Most of us grew up with Circus Animals, Chocolate Chip and those Iced Oatmeal Cookies. They went on to make sugar-free varieties as well. Today was their last day in operation.
It’s funny, I always thought of Brach’s for some reason whenever I saw a package of Mother’s Cookies in the store and actually thought they were the same company.
According to a write up in the SFGate, the company hs been around for 92 years and had some roots in the Oakland area. The company that actually owned the Mother’s Cookie brand was Archway & Mother Cake and Cookie Company in Battle Creek, MI (also home to Kellogg).
The company issued a statement saying that rising fuel costs and costs of raw materials was the reason for the bankruptcy declaration.
